In the past the Coalition of Religious Communities has organized a series of seven or eight Faith Days during the 45 day session of the Utah Legislature. This year we are bringing people together for one big Faith & Poverty Day at the Utah Capitol on the first Thursday of the legislative session, January 25, 2018. From 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM we will be gathering in the Auditorium in the State Office Building behind the Utah Capitol. During this time we will be hearing from faith community leaders and legislators about bills and budget requests that would benefit low income Utahns. Speakers during this hour will include: Rev. Kimal James of First United Methodist Church in Ogden, Rev. Vinnetta Golphin Wilkerson from Granger Community Christian Church, Representative Steve Eliason, Representative Lynn Hemingway and Representative Tim Quinn. We have also invited the Governor Office to come during the hours and receive messages about child homelessness from congregations that participated in Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath. From 11:00 AM until noon we will be taking fact sheets about the issues discussed during the first hour to hand to our individual legislators. Everyone is welcome to attend this free and educational event. For more information about Faith & Poverty Day at the Utah Capitol call Bill Tibbitts at 801-364-7765 ex. 107. |
