Last month the Mayor of Salt Lake County, Jenny Wilson, released a proposed budget that includes spending $26 million on affordable housing. This funding, which comes from the American Rescue Plan Act, would be dedicated in these ways: a) $20 million would be placed into the county housing trust fund, and b) $6 million would be used to draw down $14 million in state funding to produce housing for extremely vulnerable people. Members of the Coalition of Religious Communities have been asking County leaders to spend ARPA funds on housing since July and so we are delighted to see Mayor Wilson proposing these major investments be included in the first $63 million in ARPA spending. |
