Did you know that the first year of life is the time that someone in this country is most likely to be homeless? Does learning about that fact make you want to share it with others? The Coalition of Religious Communities has come up with a way for people of faith to educate the members of their specific faith community about child homelessness called "Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath." During the month of October over thirty congregations in Utah will be including prayers for homeless children in a worship service and/or collecting diapers for an agency that serves children who are homeless because of domestic violence. Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath provides these congregations a way to talk about ethical and moral principles in the context of a local problem and to be part of a larger, multi-faith, conversation. We have a packet of materials to make it easy for congregations to participate. This packet includes: • Prayers and materials that can be used during a worship service, • A bulletin insert with facts about child homelessness, • A flier for the Coalition of Religious Communities's annual Faith & Poverty Day at the Utah Capitol, • A set of key facts about homelessness in Utah that can be used to help with sermon preparation, and, • Information about the Coalition of Religious Communities's three part plan for reducing child homelessness. Every week in October we will be sharing information about how different faith communities are planning to participate in Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath during the coming weekend. We will also be sharing pictures and stories from worship services from the prior week. If you would like to learn more bout how your congregation can participate in Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath call Bill Tibbitts at Crossroads Urban Center, 801-364-7765 ex 107. | Faith Communities participating in Ending Child Homelessness Sabbath All Saints Episcopal Church Bountiful United Church of Christ Calvary Baptist Church, Salt Lake City Cathedral Church of St. Mark Centenary United Methodist Church, Salt Lake City Christ United Methodist Church, Millcreek Community United Methodist Church, Ogden Congregation United Church of Christ, Ogden Congregation Kol Ami Cottonwood Presbyterian Church Elim Lutheran Church, Ogden Emerald Hills Initiative Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Ogden First Presbyterian Church, Salt Lake City First United Methodist Church of Ogden First United Methodist Church of Salt Lake City Granger Community Christian Church, West Valley City Hilltop United Methodist Church, Sandy Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake Holladay United Church of Christ Midvale EFKS New Jerusalem Church Mosaic Interfaith Ministries, Murray Mt.
