Ending Child Homelessness Day at the Utah Capitol to feature Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, housing authority directors from Weber & Utah Counties and more

12/19/2019

Ending Child Homelessness Day at the Utah Capitol is taking place on the morning of Thursday, January 30, 2020. We are meeting at 10 AM in the Capitol Board Room-- which is in the Capitol Building on the east end of the Rotunda. If you join us at the Capitol for this event you will:
  1. Hear from the sponsors of a bill that would generate 2,300 new affordable housing units and provide rental assistance to over 3,000 Utah households each year.
  2. Learn how this bill would help efforts to reduce homelessness and housing instability from the new Mayor of Salt Lake City and housing authority directors from Utah and Weber Counties.
  3. Celebrate full Medicaid expansion with a representative from the Governor's Office.
  4. Talk to legislators about the big housing bill and any other topic that interests you.
One big reason the Coalition of Religious Communities organizes a day to talk about poverty issues at the Utah Capitol is to educate legislators about the variety of faith communities that exist in the state and in their legislative districts.  We have heard from Episcopalians, Jews, Latter Day Saints, United Methodists, Lutherans, Baptists, Unitarian Universalists, Presbyterians, and members of the United Church of Christ and Disciples of Christ who plan to attend. If you are planning to attend please let Bill Tibbitts know either by sending an email to  [email protected] or calling 801-364-7765 ex 107.
