New national research shows that households with children are twice as likely to face eviction as households without children. Could this be a factor in why so many families with children are becoming homeless this year?
According to the Utah Homelessness Data Dashboard, 1,868 children have spent at least one night in a homeless shelter in our state during the first eight months of this year. 1,293 of those children were members of a family that became homeless for the first time this year. The average child who has spent a night in a homeless shelter in Utah this year lived in that shelter for 32 days. However, almost ten percent of children who spent a night in a homeless shelter this year is a member of a family that has been homeless for nine months or longer. |
